About Us

The Mentor Hub WA provides high-quality mentoring services for children and young people up to 25 years of age across the Perth, Peel, and South West regions of Western Australia.

Our focus is on creating long-term meaningful, consistent mentoring relationships that promote positive outcomes, personal growth, and community engagement. We mentor young people from all walks of life but specialise in supporting children and young people with complex needs and trauma backgrounds.

To ensure the best possible match, we carefully consider a range of factors when allocating mentors, including gender preferences, age, interests and hobbies, lived experience, personality fit, and geographic location.

Mentoring services are available seven days per week (excluding some public holidays) and are delivered subject to mentor availability.

The Mentor Hub WA was founded by Nic Di Lena, who spent 13 years working with the Department for Child Protection. Throughout his career, Nic worked closely with children, young people, families, carers, and service providers, developing a strong understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable young people and the supports required to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

Over the course of his career, he noticed one fundamental truth for all children - the need for connection and how healing was done through connection. 

All Mentor Hub WA mentors hold a current Western Australian Working with Children Check (WWC) and National Police Clearance. Mentors are carefully selected, screened, and supported to ensure they provide safe, reliable, and professional services to the young people they work alongside.

    The Mentor Hub WA and it’s mentors has a zero tolerance policy towards all forms of child abuse.

  • Our mentors pride themselves on building trusting, positive relationships with their clients.

    They understand the importance of young people’s formative years and how the choices made today can positively and negatively impact on people’s futures.

    Our mentors ethos is to:

    • Assist in re-engaging young people back into education

    A minimum booking time of 2 hours per session is required (as per Fair Work laws). The frequency of these sessions will be determined when discussing your referral.

    Permitted activities

    Activities during mentoring sessions will vary based on the interests of the young person and as negotiated between The Mentor Hub WA/the mentor and the referrer.

    Examples of permitted activities during mentoring sessions include: bowling, laser tag, trampolining, shopping, nature walks.

    Examples of prohibited activities include: abseiling, archery, motor racing, parachuting and activities involving dangerous bodies of water.

    The safety of both the mentor and the young person is of paramount importance during sessions.

  • Our mentors have valid WA Drivers Licenses and are therefore able to transport clients in their own personal vehicles.

    Transport costs are associated with the mentoring service and these costs will be disclosed when seeking a quote for services.

  • Referrals are currently accepted from various agencies and Departments including but not limited to, The Department of Communities (Housing, Child Protection, Youth Justice), Children’s Court, the Disabilities Sector and referrals sent by members of the general public.

    Upon receiving your referral, a member of our team will be in touch with you to discuss next steps, provide a quote, discuss matching and answer any questions you may have.

  • Do the mentors have the necessary criminal history screenings and Working with Children (WWC) card?

    Yes, in order for any mentor to provide service they will have successfully passed a National Criminal Screening Check and will have a valid WWC.

    Confidentiality

    Personal details of families and young people mentors work with are kept STRICTLY confidential and they are not to discuss these details with anyone other than The Mentor Hub WA and the referring client.

    How will mentors be selected for the child/young person I am needing a service for?

    Mentors will be selected based on consultation with the referring client.

    Aspects for matching will include but not be limited to, gender, experience, interests and location.

    What are the qualifications of the mentors?

    Mentors have a range of qualifications relevant to the role including Psychology, Social Workers, Youth Workers, students currently studying in the fields of Humanities. Some mentors do not have formal qualifications but are parents to their own children. Experience, work ethic, maturity, life skills as well as appropriate qualifications are all taken into account when selecting our mentors.

    A thorough interview and work history, including referee reports from previous employees is provided prior to mentors being selected to provide service.

    Is there a dress code for the mentors?

    Mentors are expected to wear normal everyday clothing. However, they are always to be mindful of their role and their need to be professional. Therefore, revealing clothing or clothing that brands offensive language or imagery is not permitted as this contradicts the role of positive role modelling.

    Where does mentoring take place?

    Location parameters are set by the referring client based on what is needing to be achieved in the sessions themselves. However, be assured that a mentor taking a child/young person back to the mentors private residence or any other location associated with the mentor is strictly prohibited.

    Are any clients ineligible to be referred?

    The Mentor Hub WA are happy to answer all questions of this nature at the point of referral. However, The Mentor Hub WA need to protect the mentors by not placing them in situations that compromise their safety.
